LADY LIGHTNING BLUE 2ND AT HORSEHEADS TOURNAMENT (2024-07-21)

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. — The Lady Lightning Blue took second at the Horseheads Blast 18U Tournament this weekend.

The Blue went 4-2 overall, losing their opener 5-3 to FURY. They would win their next four games to reach the finals, beating Southern Tier Thunder 18U 6-3, EDGE 1-0, ST Lightning 5-1, FURY 3-0 in the semifinals, and then losing to the EDGE 9-6 in the finals.


In the opener against FURY Hannah Berger (2-for-3) had 2-RBI with a run scored as Olivia Thompson (1-for-3) had a double with two runs scored.


Savannah Persun (2-for-2) had a multi-hit game as Toni Herb (1-for-3) and Brooke Seiger (1-for-3) both had hits.


Persun struck out 11 in the loss with six hits, two walks, and five run, two of which were earned.


In the win over the Southern Tier Thunder Berger (1-for-3) had a home run with 3-RBI as Kelsea Moore (2-for-2) also had an RBI.


Thompson (1-for-3) scored twice with an RBI while Madi Lord, Seiger, and Gretchen Schmieg (1-for-2) all crossed home. Persun (1-for-3) had 2-RBI as Herb (1-for-2) also had a hit.


Makenna Callear started, going three innings with two strikeouts, two walks, five hits, and three runs, two of which were earned. Moore tossed the next two innings, with one strikeout, one walk, one hit, and no runs.


A Berger (1-for-2) solo home run was the difference in the win over the EDGE. Moore (1-for-2), Herb (1-for-2) and Schmieg (1-for-2) also had hits.


Moore went the first three innings, allowing three walks, two hits, and no runs. Persun tossed the final three innings with two strikeouts, four hits, no walks, and no runs.


In the win over the ST Lightning Persun (2-for-3) scored and drove in a run as Berger (2-for-2) also scored. Thompson (1-for-3) had a double with a run scored, as Kiarra DeLancey (1-for-3) and Callear (1-for-2) both crossed home.


Moore (1-for-2) and Seiger (1-for-2) each had an RBI as Lord (1-for-3) also had a hit.


Callear went the distance for the win, striking out four with no walks, three hits, and one run.


In the semifinal win over the FURY Moore got the shutout, allowing one hit, and one walk, with five strikeouts. Moore (3-for-3) was also perfect from the plate, including a double.


Persun (2-for-3) had a double with DeLancey (1-for-3) hitting a home run with 2-RBI. Thompson (1-for-3) scored and drove in a run as Seiger (1-for-2) also scored. 


Berger (1-for-2) and Kynlee Kunkle (1-for-2) each had a hit.


In the loss to the EDGE in the finals Thompson (2-for-3) had a triple with two runs scored, as Moore (2-for-2) had a double, scored and drove in a run.


DeLancey (1-for-4), Callear, and Schmieg all scored as Berger, Lord, and Kunkle (1-for-3) each had an RBI. 


Persun started, and went 5 2/3-innings with six strikeout, no walk, five hits, and three unearned runs. Moore tossed a third of an inning with four hits, and four earned runs.


Callear also pitched, allowing one walk, three hits, and two earned runs.
