GREENLAND, HILEY HELP LACKAWANNA LIGHTNING TO BACK TO BACK UNDEFEATED WEEKENS (2024-07-23)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It’s been a busy July for Shaylee Greenland and Maddie Hiley as they competed in two tournaments for the Lackawanna Lightning 18U team.

July 13th and 14th they competed in the upper division of the Steal Your Sunshine Tournament in Bethlehem.


In pool play they defeated Pa Xtreme Red 18U 9-2 as Greenland went five innings with five strikeouts and one run. Hiley had a hit with 2-RBI and a run scored.


In the second game they beat Impact Softball 7-0 as Hiley went five innings with seven strikeouts.


They were the two seed for bracket play and beat the Lehigh Valley Flames 5-4 on a walk-off hit. Abby Yenalevitch started with Hiley going the final 1 1/3-innings with three strikeouts. She also had a single as Greenland had a double.


In the semifinals they beat Bethlehem Steal 18U 6-2. Greenland tossed all five innings with 10 strikeouts, while Hiley had a hit with an RBI.


Lackawanna went on to win the title game 8-2 as Greenland went six innings with one strikeout. HIley had a hit, with an RBI and a run scored.


This past weekend they were at the Binghamton College Showcase where they went 6-0.


In the first game they defeated the Lady Rebels 5-0 with Greenland in the circle. They would beat MAD Softball 6-2 in their next game with Hiley in the circle.


Greenland pitched them past Miss Sen Thunder 5-1 in the third game, while in the fourth game they won 5-1 over PA Riot as Brooke Lenahan and Hiley combined in the circle.


In their fifth game Yenalevich pitched them to a 10-2 win over the Dawgs. Greenland then pitched them past Easton Elite 2-1.


Greenland tossed 17 innings with 17 strikeouts, two walks, and only allowed seven hits. At the plate she had nine hits.


Hiley went nine innings with 16 strikeouts, 13 of them coming against MAD Softball. She had three hits at the plate.
