NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: TOWANDA BATTLES ATHENS TOUGH IN 3-1 LOSS (2024-08-30)

TOWANDA — Towanda battled Athens tough for much of the game but two late Wildcat goals proved to be the difference in their 3-1 win over the Knights in NTL girls’ soccer action Thursday.
It was 1-1 for much of the game after the two teams traded goals early in the first half. Then, with 10 minutes to play, Athens got back to back goals to pull away for the win.
The Wildcats got on the scoreboard when Lizzie Gorsline found Addy Wheeler for the initial goal with 31:18 on the clock.
Just three minutes later Anna Dunn put the Knights on the score board with a free kick.
It stayed 1-1 until 10:19 left to play when Olivia Thompson headed in a rebound for Athens to make it 2-1. They added another goal with 9:22 left as Thompson got her second.
Athens had a 20-5 edge in shots, and 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Mya Maynard made 10 saves in net for Towanda.
Towanda (0-3) will travel to Wyalusing next Wednesday.
