NTL GIRLS' TENNIS: TOWANDA OUTLASTS NPL FOR 3-2 WIN (2024-08-30)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — It took three hours but Towanda girls’ tennis picked up their second win of the season, edging NP-Liberty 3-2 in NTL action Thursday.
They swept the singles matches, as it came down to first singles with Black Knight Lainey Alderfer holding on to beat NPL’s Annie Johns in a match that went 180 minutes.
Alderfer won the first set 6-4, but Johns rallied for a 6-4 second set win. In the third set set Alderfer won 7-6 (10-8).
At second singles Towanda’s Nadia Alderfer swept Elyna Booth 6-0, 6-0, while at third singles Black Knight Emma Ackley held on for a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win over Elena Hazleton.
At first doubles NPL’s team of Allie Brion and Clara Kieser won 7-5, 6-2 over Maddy Blanchard and Jayden Conklin.
At second doubles Towanda’s duo of Delila Vega and Jenalee Coe dropped a 6-2, 6-0 match to Olivia Burrows and Roslyn Williams. It was Vega’s first match of the season.
Towanda (2-4) heads to CV next Tuesday with a 4 p.m.
