NTL CROSS-COUNTRY: NEB BOYS OPEN TITLE DEFENSE WITH WINS OVER TOWANDA, ATHENS (2024-09-03)
Northern Tier Sports ReportATHENS — The NEB boys opened their title defense with a sweep of Towanda and Athens during NTL cross-country action Tuesday.
The Panthers went 1-2 in the race, beating Towanda 21-39, and Athens 16-44. Towanda topped Athens 24-35.
Creed Dewing (17:11) and Ryan Jones (17:21) led the Panthers with Towanda taking the next two spots with Jack Tavani (18:11) and Jacob Carr (18:14).
The Panthers’ Dayton Russell (18:23) and Jackson Martin (18:25) were fifth and sixth, while Brody Bennett (18:51.25) rounded out their top five in eighth.
Hagen Jones (19:26) was 12th for the Knights with Jackson Frederick (19:52.36) 14th and Anthony Rifenbark (20:47) 16th.
In the junior high race NEB edged Towanda 27-30, while both teams beat Athens 15-50.
Towanda’s Emmett Klees (10:26) won the race with NEB’s Josiah Russell (10:28) in second.
