NTL FOOTBALL: WYALUSING HEADS TO WELLSBORO FOR THURSDAY NIGHT ACTION (2024-09-04)

BY CHRIS MANNING
Northern Tier Sports Report
Wyalusing (2-0) will be on the road again this week as they travel to Wellsboro (0-2) for their turn on Thursday night football.

The Rams have started the season with two convincing wins, beating NPM and CV by a combined 74-12 in the first two weeks of the season. Wellsboro has been on the other end of their first two games against Montoursville and Muncy, losing by a combined 96-7.

Still, Wyalusing isn’t taking them lightly.

“We were on the practice field 9 a.m. on Labor Day, knowing we had a short week to prepare for Wellsboro,” said Wyalusing coach Rich Rogers. “We continue to work on limiting mistakes and becoming more disciplined.”

Rogers felt they improved on areas that allowed them to get the shutout against CV after giving up two big plays for touchdowns against NP-Mansfield.

“I was happy with improvements on kick-off coverage and QB contain vs Cowanesque,” Rogers said.’

Wyalusing has done all this with out completing a pass, but also without being forced to punt.

“We continue to spend extra time on developing enough of a passing game to keep opposing defense honest,” continued Rogers.

KEYS TO THE GAME

Wyalusing — Keep the penalties down. Opponents have been flagged 16 times for 145 yards against Wellsboro, and nothing helps a struggling team like shooting yourself in the foot.

Wellsboro — Slow down the run. Easier said than done - Wyalusing’s first two opponents haven’t been able to do it - but if they can bend but not break they’ll stay in the game.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Ayden Hunsinger, Wyalusing, RB, LB  — Hunsinger has been a stalwart in the backfield early this season, running for over 100 yards in the first two games. He’s also been one of their best tacklers on the defensive side, too.

Ryder Bowen, Wellsboro, RB, LB — Bowen leads the team in tackles with 14 while also leading the team in rushing yards at 109 on 39 carries.
