NTL VOLLEYBALL: TROY CLAIMS WILLIAMSON TOURNAMENT TITLE (2024-09-07)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTIOGA JUNCTION — Troy claimed the Williamson Volleyball Tournament title Saturday, avenging an early season loss to the hosts in the finals.
They defeated Williamson 25-23 and 25-17 in the title match. They opened up bracket play with a 25-12 win over Athens, then held off last year’s champions NEB 25-23, 25-19.
“The girls really wanted to pull out on top of Williamson today and knew what they needed to do to accomplish it,” said coach Abby Herman. “They work so hard together and today everything just happened the right way for them. Their energy was great and each one of them did their part to get the win.”
They won Pool A, opening with a split with Williamson (23-25, 25-23), then sweeping Canton (25-21, 26-24), Sayre (25-13, 25-18), and Northern Potter (25-10, 25-12) to go 7-1.
Kali Ayres had a 30-30 day with 32 digs and 30 kills, while adding 27 assists, and seven aces, with Aryan Andrus getting 42 kills, 19 blocks, three digs, one assist, and one ace.
Brenna Jackson had 57 assists, 18 digs, nine kills, and three aces, with Marlee Stanton getting 22 digs, 15 kills, one assist, and nine aces.
Josie Kerrick had 19 digs, 10 kills, four assists, three blocks, and four aces, with Alli Bailey adding 27 digs, four assists, and four aces.
Haidyn Watson had 17 digs, three assists, with six aces, as Camryn Barbour notched three digs, one block, eight kills, and one assist.
Amber White had three kills, two aces, and a dig with Lexi Kjellander and Arrika Johnston both getting a kill. Maeleigh Deitrick chipped in with a dig.
Troy will travel to Williamsport on Tuesday.
