Northern Tier Sports ReportA very busy day today with 11 contests on the docket, featuring golf, soccer, cross-country, and volleyball.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Troy, Wellsboro at NEB, 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers seem to be getting all their toughest opponents on the boys’ side out of the way early. They had Athens and Towanda last week, then take on more Large School foes this week in Troy and Wellsboro. Both NEB and Troy come in 2-0. For the girls there should be some good individual races between Wellsboro’s Lauren Kosek, Troy’s Alyssa Parks, and NEB’s Anaiah Kolesar.
CV, Wyalusing at Canton, 4:30 p.m.: There should be a good boys’ race between the teams, while Canton’s Lawrence Halbfoerster and Wyalusing’s Trennan Tewksbury will showdown again after meeting at Lasagna last week. The Lady Rams comes in undefeated at 1-0.
Sayre, Sullivan County at Towanda, 4:30 p.m.: The Black Knight girls and boys are coming off good showings this past weekend at Lasagna as they look to get two more teams wins.
VOLLEYBALL
Troy (2-1) at Williamsport (2-1), 7 p.m.: The Trojans are coming off a big showing at the Williamson Volleyball Tournament, claiming the title as they hope to springboard off that momentum into this week.
Athens (1-2) at Towanda (1-3), 7:30 p.m.: A key early season meeting between the rivals. Towanda has losses to Williamson and Troy, with Athens getting losses to Troy and NPL.
Canton (1-2) at Williamson (3-0), 7:30 p.m.: After a slow start the Warriors have come on, beating CV in their home opener, and splitting with Williamson in bracket play at their own tournament.
Wyalusing (2-3) at NEB (4-0), 7:30 p.m.: The Rams are searching for their first league win after beating Elk Lake this past Saturday. NEB fell in the semifinals to Troy at the Williamson Tournament.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Athens (1-4) at Troy (0-7), 4 p.m.: The Trojans get another tough foe in this back to back. Athens opened the season with a win over NEB but has Lost every game since.
NEB (1-4-1) at Galeton (0-4), 5:30 p.m.: The Panthers’ early season road trips continue as they head out west. NEB has a win and a tie in their last two efforts while the Tigers have been out scored 27-3 so far this season.
NP-Liberty (3-2) at Towanda (3-2), 6 p.m.: The Knights saw their 3-game win streak come to an edge against Southern Columbia, but face another tough foe in NPL to start the week. NPL is coming off a loss to Wellsboro (4-1) but has wins over Galeton (twice) and Troy.
GOLF
NTL at River Valley, 1 p.m.: Teams descend to CV’s course as Athens looks to take their league match victories streak into the 20s. Towanda and Wyalusing are coming off strong showings at White Deer last week.
