NTL FOOTBALL: WYALUSING FINALLY RETURNS HOME TO FACE SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT (2024-09-18)

Wyalusing (3-1) will be looking to bounce back from a tough road loss last week as they return home for the first time in three weeks to take on the defending District IV, Class A champions in South Williamsport (1-3).

“South Williamsport is big, and they are well coached,” said Wyalusing coach Rich Rogers. “They have an effective passing attack to complement their power run game.”

After being strong defensively the first three weeks the Rams gave up 28 points last week at Montgomery.

“We need to return to the solid defense we played the first three weeks of the season to be successful,” Rogers said.

The biggest improvement will need to be on the offensive end where they’ve struggled the last two weeks.

“This has been an important week of practice for us,” Rogers said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how our team responds.”

KEYS TO THE GAME

South Williamsport — Slow the run game. Wyalusing is a power run team that likes to wear you down between the tackles. If the Mounties can plug up the middle it’ll be slow going for the Rams.

Wyalusing — Keep drives going. The best way to beat South’s offense is to keep it off the field. Long, time consuming drives, that, ideally end in points, would go a long way to slowing South down. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Dylan Scheller, South Williamsport, SW — He’s hard to miss at 6-foot, 5-inch, but he’s South’s wildcard if they struggle to move the ball on the ground. It’s safe to say he’ll get 10 throws his way during the course of the game.

Ayden Hunsinger, Wyalusing, RB, LB — They’ll need a big night out of Hunsinger on both sides of the ball, but especially on offense as they try to regain their running form.
