ON TAP TODAY: A COUPLE BIG GAMES AFTER A FEW DAYS OFF
(2021-02-17)Northern Tier Sports Report
Mother Nature has given the area enough of a reprieve to get sports going again, with several big games today.
Towanda (11-1) at Wyalusing (7-3), 6:30 p.m.: The Knights are undefeated in the NTL at 9-0, and defeated the Rams the last time they played. A win here goes a long way to ensuring they repeat as the Division-I champions. Wyalusing is battling for playoff position, as well as holding out hope that they can rally for the division title.
Williamson (4-10) at Troy (4-8), 6 p.m.: The first of a double-header at the Commons Building. The Trojans are making a playoff push and this is a good chance to try and move up the District IV, Class AAA standings.
Athens (12-3) at Canton (4-7), 6 p.m.: Canton will be looking to pick up the upset win at home as the Wildcats try to keep pace with league leading Towanda. Athens is also holding onto the District IV, Class AAAA top seed by a thin margin.
Wellsboro (10-2) at Troy (12-2), 7:30 p.m.: The game everybody in the NTL Division-I has been waiting for. It’s been postponed twice because of snow, with Troy leading the Hornets by half a game in the league standings. This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams.
Williamson (1-14) at Wyalusing (8-3), 5 p.m.: The Rams are looking to keep pace with NTL Division-I leader NP-Liberty with a win here. After a 3-3 start Wyalusing is riding a 6-game win streak.
Towanda (3-9) at Athens (8-7), 7:30 p.m.: The Knights will be looking to pick up a road win against the Wildcats. This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams.
Montgomery (5-7) at Canton (6-6), 7:30 p.m.: A win here would help the Warriors keep hold of the third seed in the District IV, Class AA standings. They’ve had an up and down season so far - starting out 3-0, then going on an 0-3 run - so this would be a good chance to get off the roller coaster.
