NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: BARRETT'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS TOWANDA PAST WYALUSING (2021-02-17)

WYALUSING — Erin Barrett had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, with Amanda Horton hitting four 3-pointers, as Towanda defeated Wyalusing 58-39 in NTL girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

The win moves the Lady Knights one step closer to the NTL title as they improve to 10-0 in the league, giving them a 2-game lead on Athens in the loss column. Towanda is now 12-1 overall while the Rams fall to 7-4.


Horton finished with 12 points as Porschia Bennett added 12 points, six boards, three steals and three assists.


The Lady Rams did hold Paige Manchester to less than half her average in points with just seven, but she had six boards, seven assists, three steals and two blocks to go with it.


Kenadie Packard finished with three points and five boards, while Saige Greenland and Ally Hurley had two points apiece.


Wyalusing had a balanced effort on offense as seven different players scored.


Layla Botts led the way with nine points to go with four rebounds, while Hailey Jayne had eight points and two assists.


Callie Bennett finished with six points, with Laci Norton scoring five. Madison Putnam and Olivia Leichliter had four points each, while Putnam grabbed five boards and had three steals as Leichliter nabbed four boards.


Catherine Brown netted three points to go with four rebounds to round out the Wyalusing side.


Barrett and Horton sprinted Towanda out to a 20-10 first quarter lead. Barrett had 11 points in the frame, while Horton hit two 3-pointers.


Botts’ four points helped keep them in the game early on.


Wyalusing settled in defensively in the second quarter, playing Towanda even, 9-9, to keep it 29-19 at the half. Four different players scored for both teams.


Towanda then used a 21-point third quarter to pull away, led by Bennett’s seven points as she went 5-for-6 from the line.


The Lady Knights will host Troy on Thursday with Wyalusing at Canton on Saturday, with a 1 p.m. start.
