NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: TROY MAKES MCROBERTS' GOAL STICK IN WIN OVER WILLIAMSON (2024-09-25)

EAST TROY — Troy escaped a spirited effort from Williamson, beating the Warriors 1-0 in NTL girls’ soccer action Tuesday to stay undefeated in league play on the season.

“I’m always, always thankful that we can do that,” said Troy coach Wayne Pratt. “The girls worked really hard tonight. We really played a quality team tonight, they played their hearts out. They gave everything they had, and we had to play some of the best ball we’ve played all year to stay in front of them.”

Alexis McRoberts got the game winner at the 17:28 mark of the first half on a give-and-go that allowed her to sneak by her mark. Once she got deep in the box she made a move around the keeper, and punched it in the back of the net.

“Her and Saydi (Renzo) really work well together going down the middle, the give and go,” said Pratt. “They usually reverse it, and come right back with Saydi scoring, as well. But the two of them, they can communicate on the field on the goal, and the two of them work really well together.”

For most of the night Troy had control of the ball, and for most of the night Williamson keeper Ashley Woodring was frustrating them with every shot.

She had 12 saves in total, her biggest coming on a Renzo free kick just outside the 18. Renzo placed it just below the cross bar, but Woodring was able to slap it away just outside the post to keep it a one score match.

“Their keeper was on top of her game tonight,” Pratt said. “My hats off to her. She stopped a lot of quality shots. Time of possession is what we strive to do every game. If we can control the ball, we feel that we’ll have a better chance at putting it in the back of the net.”

Troy’s backline did a good job most of the night of keeping the Warriors at bay, holding them to long shots without much force behind them.

Williamson’s best chance to score came with five minutes to play when they snuck between Troy’s backs. However, Madelyn Seeley came up big on the save to preserve the clean sheet, finishing with five saves.

The Trojans get a bit of a break before they take on undefeated Shikellamy on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start time.
