NTL GOLF: TOWANDA BOYS THIRD AT D4 TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS (2024-09-25)
Northern Tier Sports ReportMONTGOMERY — The Towanda boys’ golf team came in third at the District IV, Class AA Team Championships at White Deer Wednesday.
The Knights shot 327 as a group, bested only by champions Mifflinburg (310) and NP-Mansfield (319).
Freshman Boom Thompson led the way carding a 5-over 77. He didn’t have any birdies but did record 16 pars, including an even 36 on the front nine.
Graham Welles added 81 with a birdie on the par-5 14th hole, while Owen Savercool notched an 83. He birdied the par-3 seventh hole.
Baylee Clark was their last scorer with an 86, getting a birdie on the par-five 14th hole. Owen Lane rounded out their five with an 87, including a birdie on the par-4 third hole.
Those five will be going to the individual golf tournament next week, along with Lucas Vincent, who shot an 86 during the qualifier portion. He needed to break 88 to get in.
Tommy Bowen just missed qualifying for districts with a 94.
“Our boys team also came to play today with the top-4 shooting at or below their season average,” said Towanda coach Paul Lantz. “Our top four boys (Graham Welles, Boom Thompson, Owen Savercool and Baylee Clark) have already qualified for individual districts. We also had three others qualifying today. Our only senior, Owen Lane, qualified today by shooting 87. Owen needed a bogey or better on the last hole and got it up and down out of the sand trap for par to qualify. Sophomore Lucas Vincent also qualified by shooting 86. Tommy Bowen also attempted to qualify, while he came up short, he posted his best score of the season. I am so happy for Owen. This was his last chance to get to districts. He was +7 through 4 holes but he just kept grinding and got it done. We are looking forward to individual districts next week at Williamsport Country Club. It is exciting to see the interest we have in our golf program on both the girls and boys side. Both of our teams are extremely young, so the future of Knight Golf is bright. However, we aren’t quite finished with this season yet!
