NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA COMES UP JUST SHORT AGAINST ATHENS (2021-02-17)

ATHENS — For three quarters Towanda hung in there with Athens, but a 20 point fourth quarter by the Wildcats allowed them to pull away for the 63-51 win in NTL boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Towanda led 27-22 at the half, but Athens out scored them 41-24 in the second half to get the win.


Justin Schoonover led Towanda with 14 points as Teagan Irish netted 12. Kolby Hoffman scored nine, Dante Ottaviani notched six, with Elias Shrawder and Logan Lambert both scoring four points. Mason Hartmann chipped in with two.


JJ Babcock led Athens with 21 points as Mason Lister and Troy Pritchard had 13 points each.


Towanda jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead as Schoonover had six points and Hoffman netted four. They played Athens even, 11-11, in the second with Ottaviani netting four points to lead the Knights.


Lister had the big quarter for Athens with seven points to keep it a 5-point deficit.


In the third Pritchard went off for seven points for the Wildcats as they raced out to a 43-40 lead. Irish had eight points to help the Knights hang with them.


Then, in the final frame, Babcock scored 11 of his team’s 20 points as Athens pulled away. Hoffman led Towanda with five points in the quarter.


Towanda won the JV game 47-41 as Shrawder had 14 points and Owen Clark netted 13.


The Knights travel to Troy on Friday.
