NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: SEELEY IN GOAL LEADS TROY PAST SHIK IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE (2024-09-28)
Northern Tier Sports ReportEAST TROY — Troy used a timely Saydi Renzo goal and a big defensive effort to shutout Shikellamy, 1-0, during non-league girls’ soccer action Saturday.
The Braves came in undefeated with a goal differential of 88-4, including a 3-0 win over Warrior Run.
“A tremendous team effort today,” said Troy coach Wayne Pratt. “Our defense worked so well together, when a shot did get through Madi Seeley was there for the save. Madi had an unbelievable game.”
Seeley finished with 12 saves to get the clean sheet.
“Our midfield play was the best it’s been all year,” said Pratt. “They kept feeding Giana (Renzi) the ball, and G would give the defense all they could handle. We had to play several younger players today due to injuries, however, the next man up attitude was exactly what was needed. This was a great win for our program against a very good team in Shik.”
Renzo got the goal with 33:45 left in the second half after the two teams were level through halftime.
“The goal by Saydi in the second half was time perfectly as it calmed our defense and gave them the energy to continue to battle,” Pratt remarked.
Shikellamy outshot Troy 17-10 and had a 10-5 edge in corner kicks.
Troy (11-1) are winners of six straight as they travel to Towanda on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. start.
