AOW: BIG WEEKS FOR KITCHEN, VANDERPOOL LEAD TO BIG WINS FOR THEIR TEAMS (2024-09-29)

The final week of September gave area fans plenty of big moments across the entire sports spectrum, with upsets and dominant performances both in big supply.

On the girls’ side Canton volleyball found their groove this week, going 2-0 as they handed Williamson their first loss of the season. In that 3-1 win Kendall Kitchen had a double-double of 11 points and 10 digs to go with two aces. Then, in a 3-1 win over Wyalusing, Kitchen had a 20-20 match with 22 points and 20 digs, plus four aces, two assists, and two kills, earning her the Female Athlete of the Week honors.


On the boys’ side Towanda’s Riley Vanderpool had one of the best performances of the season in the NTL. He accounted for five touchdowns - four of them on the ground - while accumulating over 300 yards in a win over Canton, earning him the Male Athlete of the Week honors.
