NTL VOLLEYBALL: TROY DOWNS NPL FOR PROGRAMS FIRST WIN OVER MOUNTIES (2024-10-01)

Northern Tier Sports Report
LIBERTY — Troy volleyball made history on Tuesday in their 3-1 win over NP-Liberty during NTL volleyball action. This is the first time the Trojans have beaten NP-Liberty since they merged between the three schools of Liberty, North Penn, and Mansfield and moved to NPL.

NPL started in 2015, making it nine years the Trojans didn't win a match.

“With this being the first time to ever beat NPL it feels awesome,” said Troy coach Abby Herman. “This team has come so far in the short time I’ve been involved, and has shown growth. The girls deserve the credit for making this happen after their work for the last couple years playing NPL.”

The Trojans won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18, with the Mounties pulling out a 27-25 third set win. Troy took the fourth set 25-17.

Kali Ayres had a double-double of 14 kills and 15 digs to go with an assist and an ace, while Aryana Andrus had 12 kills, six blocks, one dig, and one assist.

Marlee Stanton had eight kills and 10 digs, as Brenna Jackson had 29 assists, six digs, three kills, one block, and an ace. Josie Kerrick finished with six kills, four assists, three aces, and eight digs.

Alli Bailey had 12 digs, three assists, and five aces, while Amber White had two kills, three digs, and an ace.

Camryn Barbour had a dig and an assist, Lexi Kjellander had four digs, and Haidyn Watson chipped in with three digs.

“After coming out of yesterday’s game and not having practice I was hoping we could adjust our defense better to their hitters,” explained Herman. “It’s nice to have experienced girls who can understand what to change when they are asked. We still had a lot of errors tonight but we are working on changing things up when we can’t find something that works.”

Troy is off until Saturday when they host Canton and Loyalsock.

“These girls are fighting their way through every game and finding their rhythm again,” said Herman. “I’m proud of the way they responded to the adversity they faced and were able to snag a win tonight.”
