NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: TROY'S RENZO NETS 50TH IN WIN OVER TOWANDA (2024-10-02)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — Early on in their game at Towanda Troy’s Saydi Renzo netted her 50th career goal. Then she went on score three more for a haul as the Trojans defeated the Knights 6-0 in NTL girls’ soccer action Tuesday.
“It feels great,” Renzo said about the milestone. “It’s a huge accomplishment, but I couldn’t have done it without my team around me.”
Renzo knew she was closing in, getting two goals away back when they faced Williamson last week. She was shutout against the Warriors, but did have the game winning goal against Shik over the weekend, before going off against Towanda to start this week.
“I knew coming into Williamson it was going to be a tough game,” Renzo said. “There was a lot of pressure, I like that pressure. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out, but versus Shik once I got that one, I wanted that second one. I’m just happy how it worked out.”
The junior is having a career year playing up front for the Trojans.
“I love attacking,” she said. “I love taking chances, so when I know that I have that opportunity I’m going to take it.”
Other goal scorers were Giana Renzi and Braylynn Shaffer.
Renzo got her 50th three minutes into the match, while Shaffer scored halfway through the first half. Renzo got her second on a penalty kick 10 minutes before the half for the 3-0 lead.
Renzi got her goal 5:30 into the second half, with Renzo scoring at the 13:42 mark and 2:09 mark of the second half.
Troy out shot Towanda 17-12 and had a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Madelyn Seeley made seven saves to get the clean sheet for Troy, while Mya Maynard had seven saves for the Knights, as well.
This is Troy’s seventh straight win as they look to finish the second undefeated to clinch their fifth straight league title, and a top two seed in the district playoffs.
“It’s been really exciting and just awesome,” Renzo said about the season they’ve been having. “Just non-stop, we’re just going, going, and going. I just look forward to the rest of the season.”
