NTL FOOTBALL: CANTON LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST WELLSBORO (2024-10-11)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Miller A. Moyer Field will feature two teams that have fallen on tough times this season, with Canton (3-4) and Wellsboro (1-6) both going through their share of problems.

The Warriors have lost 3-in-a-row as injuries have left them thin up front while Wellsboro has struggled with on offense if Ryder Bowen isn’t touching the football.

“Ryder Bowen is a great player on both sides of the ball, and is having a great senior season,” said Canton coach Tyler Sechrist. “Wellsboro has a young team that is getting better every week. They will be ready to play Friday night.”

Bowen did run for over 100-yards last week against undefeated Troy, and is the type of big, physical back that Canton has struggled with.

The Warriors are hoping to start getting some injured players back this week, especially defensively as they’ve given up 94 points over their last two games.

“We are hoping to get some players back this week from injury so that will help out both offensively, and defensively,” Sechrist said.

KEYS TO THE GAME

Wellsboro — Give Bowen the ball. No need to over think this one, Wyalusing ran for over 300-yards last week against Canton. Even if they get some key players back defensively the Hornets still should force them to stop the run.

Canton — Get off to a quicker start. Their past few games they’ve gotten down early, rally in the second quarter, then run out of gas in the second half. It’s tough to play from behind all the time, so getting a lead will be crucial on Friday.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Ryder Bowen, Wellsboro, RB - Bowen is one of the best running backs in the league, and he’ll be hard to miss on Friday. If Canton can slow him down, though, that’ll force the Hornets into leaning on their pass game, which hasn’t been as consistent this season.

Dawson Burgess, Canton, MLB - Burgess’ play in the middle will be key to stopping the Wellsboro run. He has 24 tackles on the season, but also leads the team with two interceptions.
