NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: WYALUSING FALLS TO WILLIAMSON IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE (2024-10-16)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WYALUSING — For 70 minutes Wyalusing played even with Williamson, but a let down in a 10 minute span early in the second half allowed the Warriors to score three goals to take the 3-0 win in NTL girls’ soccer action Wednesday.

“That’s what we told the girls after the game, the first half Mario and I were really happy with the way we played,” said Wyalusing coach Gary Haley. “Addy Bly had a couple really nice shots on goal, their goalie made a couple outstanding saves. They have a nice team, they go to the ball well, they pass the ball well, they have some speed.”

It was scoreless through the half but two minutes into the second half Williamson’s Ella Churchill hit on a long shot outside the 18 that was just under the crossbar to put the Warriors up 1-0.

At the 30:09 mark Zeraya Wilson took a cross that bounce off a Wyalusing defender. She found a hole in the corner and punched it in for a 2-0 lead.

Less than 15 seconds later Williamson scored on an own goal for the 3-0 final.

“Those first 10 minutes we kind of fell apart,” said Haley. “We gave up three goals in 10 minutes, and then we kind of regrouped in the last 30 minutes - we played decent ball but not like in the first half. We’ve got to put 80 minutes together, and we didn’t do that today, it was kind of a tough loss.”

Wyalusing’s Callee Warner got her first varsity start and finished with 12 saves in net while Williamson’s Ashley Woodring made eight saves for the clean sheet.

Wyalusing (10-6-2) will now wait to see who they play in the District IV, Class A playoffs next week. First, though, they’re going to work on revving up that offense.

“We’re still not getting that goal production that we want, but the girls are working hard,” said Haley. “We are a defensive team this year - defense keeps us in games - and then we look for a goal or two, and we keep working on that.”
