NTL FOOTBALL: CANTON WELCOMES SAYRE IN HOME FINALE (2024-10-17)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportCanton (4-4) got a big win last week against Wellsboro, while Sayre (1-7) fell to Towanda as both teams meet on Miller A Moyer Field Friday at 7 p.m.
Despite Sayre’s record Canton isn’t taking anything for granted.
“We have a lot of respect for Sayre,” Canton coach Tyler Sechrist said. “They have some great coaches and players that are working hard to build back up the Sayre football program. Sayre will be ready to play Friday night.”
After dealing with a rash of injuries Canton is starting to get some players back, which helped them last week in their win over Wellsboro.
“It was nice to have Holden back last week and it looks like we will have Jake Pepper back on the offensive and defensive line this week,” remarked Sechrist. “As we wind down the regular season and enter the district playoffs it is important that we continue to get healthy and stay healthy.”
KEYS TO THE GAME
Sayre — Keep Canton’s athletes out of space. Canton has some big athletes that can pick up yards in a hurry when they get out in space. Sayre’s will need to keep them from getting free or else they’ll be giving up big plays.
Canton — Tackle well. Tackling has been an issue for Canton this season, and Sayre has the type of athletes that can break off big plays if they get loose.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Karter Green, Sayre — Sayre’s QB is a big playmaker, and could give the Warriors fits if they don’t contain him.
Aydin Holcomb, Canton — Holcomb has over 500 yards receiving this year and six touchdowns as he looks to have a big game against Sayre.
