NTL FOOTBALL: TROY HEADS TO WINLESS CENTRAL MOUNTAIN (2024-10-17)

BY CHRIS MANNING
Northern Tier Sports Report
Troy (8-0) will travel to winless Central Mountain (0-8) for a 7 p.m. start this Friday as they look to stay on top of the District IV, Class AA standings.

“Central Mountain has one of the more difficult schedules,” said Troy coach Jim Smith. “They play a lot of higher level teams, as well as teams in a higher classification. I don’t think their record is suggestive of their potential. I have no doubt they will be prepared well and motivated to pull off an upset. We certainly can’t afford to be looking ahead.”

Central Mountain is coming off a 49-20 loss to Mt. Carmel last week as they were held to under 200 yards of total offense.

Troy has been humming offensively for much of the season, and looks to be going into the playoffs with the top seed.

“We are working on our focus in practice,” Smith said. “It hasn’t always been easy staying focused. Most of our games have been over quickly. It’s afforded our younger players a lot of varsity experience but I feel has also caused some complacency with the starting group. We can’t afford to be comfortable and have to reman motivated to continue to improve. It’s a good problem to have but easier said than done.”

KEYS TO THE GAME

Troy — Get off the bus. It’ll be a long bus ride on a school day, so being ready for the kick-off will be key.

Central Mountain — Keep Troy’s offense off the field. They’ll need to shrink the game by burning clock and yards. It’s their best way forward to try and get the upset.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Joseph Frye, Troy, WR — Frye has been a consistent presence for Troy on the offensive end, complimenting Lincoln Chimics on the other side.

Jake Weaver, Central Mountain, RB — Weaver leads the team in rushing with 337-yards and two touchdowns on the season. He scored a touchdown against Mt. Carmel.
