— Canton’s Lawrence Halbfoerster is headed back to states after taking fourth in the Class A boys’ race at the District IV Cross-country Championships Thursday.
Halbfoerster (17:03.1) paced Canton to a second place finish in the team standings with 77 places.
“My goal was to place top three, which I didn’t get, unfortunately,” said Halbfoerster. “And to break 17, and that didn’t happen, either, but I’m content with fourth because I get to go to states.”
Unlike the Class AA race, the Class A was a little more spread out with several gaps.
“The energy of the race was a lot more mellow, and you didn’t really have very many people to push you,” he said. “I knew what I had to do, and I did that.”
This will be his second trip to states, and he’s hoping to come back with some hardware this year.
“I just want to run a good race with all those hills there,” he said. “That’s going to be tough.”
Manuel Halbfoerster (19:05.8) was 14th, Landon Lake (19:19.2) took 19th, Simon Wile (19:37.4) finished 23rd, and Nehemiah Wolcott (20:01.7) took 26th.
