BLOOMSBURG — Towanda’s Izzy Larson had one of her best races of the season, taking fourth in the District IV, Class AA girls’ Cross-country Championships Thursday.

Larson (19:22.8) was one of six NTL runners to earn an individual state berth in the race.

“I felt pretty strong,” Larson said. “I was a little nervous at the beginning, but it went away once the gun went off. I wanted to get out fast, and not get boxed in. I was trying to find my spot and trying to keep it.”

She settled in the chase pack, carved out her spot at the mile, and held on to it for the final two.

“I was pretty excited about it,” said Larson. “One of the Danville girls was coming up behind me, but I knew if I wanted to get my top five goal then I had to keep my pace.”

After missing states last year due to an injury Larson is excited to finally be able to run at Hershey.

“I’m super excited to go into states and keep running throughout next week,” she said. “Hopefully get a medal at states.”

Towanda (122) was third as a team, behind the top two powerhouses of Danville (47) and Lewisburg (49).

Renzi Brown (21:26.1) took 24th, with Mary-Kate Eberlin (21:30.2) 25th.

Angie Tavani (23:01.8) finished 38th, with Leila Cobb (23:39.9) rounding things out in 43rd.

The Towanda boys took fourth with 148 points.

Boom Thompson (17:25.7) was the top finishing freshman in the Class AA boys’ race, taking 19th overall.

Jack Tavani (17:42.9) was 25th, Jacob Carr (17:59.4) finished 33rd, Hagen Jones (18:18.1) was 42nd, and Jackson Frederick (18:35.2) took 50th.
