BLOOMSBURG — Wyalusing will be having two runners represent at the PIAA Cross-country Championships, as Megan King and Trennan Tewksbury both punched their ticket at the District IV Championships Thursday.

King (21:22.3) was fifth overall in the Class A girls’ race as she paced Wyalusing (53) to a third place finish.

“It’s not really what I wanted, but I’m happy with it,” King said. “I knew (Warrior Run’s Claire Dufrene) probably go out fast and win it, I just wanted to stay back and catch up later.”

For the most part King held her spot through the thinned out Class A race.

“I got a little nervous for a second, and then I just prayed, and it really set me again,” she said.

With just five individuals going in this small field King knew her only guarantee was to take top five as she held on to her spot down the stretch.

“(I was thinking) that I can do this, I can beat these girls,” she said. “They’re all tough, and I’m tough, too.”

Camryn Gesford (22:32.2) was 15th, Riley Porter (23:08.1) was 21st, Marci Gowin (23:11.2) took 22nd, and Kira Allen (24:39.8) rounded out the top five in 26th.

In the Class A boys’ race Tewksbury took sixth overall in 17:31.5 as he’d been battling a cold.

“I don’t think my race went too well,” the senior said. “I did everything I could but I’ve been coughing and sick for the last two weeks, so I did what I could. I’m not too upset.”

Tewksbury did a good job holding his spot throughout the race.

“My mindset was to get up with the top group, and I was just going to try to stick with them as long as I could,” he explained. “I tried to do what I could. I just wanted to at least make states.”

He plans on doing everyone he can to try and get healthy.

“I’ll do all the necessities to get down there,” he said. “Hopefully, I get a medal. We’ll see what happens.”

The Rams were fourth with 90 places.

Bradyn Johnson (19:07.3) was 15th, Parker Cunningham (19:40.1) took 24th, Tyler Caplan (20:03) finished 27th, and Jack Fischer (20:19.9) was 28th.
