NTL CROSS-COUNTRY: WYALUSING'S TEWKSBURY, KING BOTH END THEIR SEASON AT STATES (2024-11-03)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportHERSHEY — Wyalusing’s Trennan Tewksbury finished up his high school at the PIAA Cross-country Championships with a top 50 place in the Class A boys’ race. He ran 17:48 to take 41st overall.
“It’s not great, but I gave it everything I had,” Tewksbury said.
Tewksbury started off conservatively, sitting in 124th at the 800 meter mark, then moved up to 88th by the mile. At the 2-mile he was 43rd, and got as high as 39th with 1,000 meters but couldn’t quite climb the rest of the way.
He did finish close to runners who beat him at districts, with Canton’s Lawrence Halbfoerster 37th, and Northwest’s Oliver Heintzelman just ahead in 40th.
“I was keeping my eyes on them,” explained Tewksbury. “I was trying to get them. They went out a lot faster than me, I can’t go out very fast because I feel like I start dying, but I just keep my eyes on them, and was trying to work off them.”
Tewksbury has always enjoyed running at the Parkview Course.
“Coming back to states is always good,” he said. “This course is probably my favorite course.”
In the girls’ Class A race Megan King took 74th with a time of 22:13. She was 102nd at the mile, but worked her way up to 78th at the 2-mile mark. She would get as high as 72nd with 1,000 meters to go.
