NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: NIEMCZYK HAS BIG NIGHT AS CANTON RUNS PAST NP-MANSFIELD (2021-02-20)

MANSFIELD — Canton scored a season high 85 points as they defeated NP-Mansfield 85-72 in NTL boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Isaiah Niemczyk had a season high 33 points with teammate Cooper Kitchen netting 21, including four 3-pointers.


Caiden Williams added 13 points as Cameron Bellows notched 10. Tyler Jannone finished with five, while Brendan Matthews rounded things out with three points.


Curtis Craig led NPM with 22 points, while Brody Burleigh netted 16 and Karson Dominick scored 15. Eli Shaw and Alex Stein had six points apiece, Jake Evans netted five and Sam Lawrence scored two.


Canton held a narrow 15-14 first quarter lead as Niemczyk had 10 of his team’s points.


Kitchen took over in the second quarter, scoring 11 points, including two 3-pointers, with Williams adding six, to give Canton a 38-35 halftime lead.


Craig paced NPM with 10 points in the second quarter as Dominick netted six.


Canton stayed hot in the third quarter, netting 21 points, behind 10 from Niemczyk, with Bellows scoring six. 


They also played better defense, holding the Tigers to a game low 12 points in the third to extend their lead to 59-47.


NPM responded with a game high 25 points in the fourth as Burleigh and Stein had six points each.


However, Niemczyk exploded for 13 points, with Williams netting seven, to help the Warriors score a game high 26 points to secure the win.


Canton went 12-for-17 in the fourth from the charity stripe.


The Warriors host Williams on Tuesday.
