NTL GIRLS' TENNIS: TOWANDA HAS A BANNER RAISING SEASON IN 2024 (2024-11-09)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportIt was a banner season for Towanda girls’ tennis, which claimed the NTL title this season in dramatic fashion.
The Lady Knights went 8-6 overall on the year to claim to their first league title since 2020, and did it despite starting the year 0-4.
They bounced back with five straight wins, including four 3-2 victories (Muncy, NPL, CV, and Wellsboro).
After a tough loss to Montgomery they picked up back to back NTL wins, both 3-2, against NPL and CV to clinch the NTL title.
That second win also clinched a team district appearance.
They ended the year with a 3-2 win over NPL, and a 3-2 loss at Bucktail.
They lost 4-0 to Lewisburg in the team districts opener.
Towanda’s Nadia Alderfer and Lainey Alderfer both went 0-1 at the District IV Singles Championships, with the sister duo going 0-1 during the doubles competition.
The Alderfer’s had the two best winning percentages in the NTL, with Nadia going 8-4, and Lainey finishing 7-5. Emma Ackley finished 4-4 on the year.
Despite losing their top singles player in Nadia Alderfer Towanda will have plenty coming back to defend their NTL title.
