COLLEGE: SEYMOUR, WARD, CARR ALL HIT THE MATS THIS PAST WEEKEND (2024-11-13)

One will find at the Division I level, Sheldon Seymour (Troy) representing Lehigh University, Hudson Ward (Canton), and CJ Carr (Wyalusing) representing Lock Haven University. One will also find at the Division III level, Nick Woodruff (Wyalusing) at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
This past weekend, we saw three local wrestlers competing in the same tournament. Seymour, Ward, and Carr were all at the Journeymen Open in Bethlehem, PA. This tournament is unique in itself. Wrestlers are placed into an A/B pool with a cross-over match. There are multiple pools for each weight class. This format allows the coaches to see where and how their wrestlers are with like competition.
Seymour saw action in the 125A bracket. Seymour started the day off wrestling Nick Babin from Pittsburg University. Seymour would score the opening takedown and not look back to win his first match 7-2. In his second match, Seymour squared off with Jacob Camacho from NC State. Camacho came into the tournament ranked 7th in the nation at 125. Again, Seymour opened up by scoring the first takedown and controlling the match from beginning to end. Seymour would beat Camacho by a major decision 12-0. In the final match Seymour would face off against Vince Robinson from NC State. Robinson would take the opening takedown. Seymour never being able to get his offense going throughout the match. Seymour would lose the match by a decision 10-4. Seymour would end up going 2-1 on the day.
CJ Carr is wrestling in the 133C bracket in a round-robin format. In Carr’s first match, he would face off against fellow PA native Carter Dibert from Arizona State. Carr would lose his first colligate match by a major decision 12-1. In Carr’s second match, again, he would face off against another fellow PA wrestler, Braxton Fries-Appello. Carr again would end up losing by a major decision, 15-4. Carr’s last match saw him square off against Cornell’s Foster Cardinale. Carr’s day would end with a loss by technical fall 19-4 in 6:42. Carr would see his first college tournament go 0-3.
Hudson Ward is wrestling in the 157H bracket. In Ward’s first match, he would score an 8-1 decision victory over Jack Valentin from Long Island University. Ward’s second match he would run into Ryan Alvardo from Army West Point where he would lose by fall 1:00. In Ward’s third match he would face off against Jake Neil of Franklin & Marshall where he would lose 5-4. Ward would close out his first college tournament 1-2.
