NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: TOWANDA BATTLES THROUGH ROLLER COASTER SEASON (2024-11-14)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It was a roller coaster season for Towanda girls’ soccer, but one that ended with a happy note when senior striker Anna Dunn broke the score record for career goals scored.

“I’m very proud of the effort from our players this year,” said Towanda coach Jacob McGuire. “We faced some adversity with low numbers on the squad for this season. However, the team fought hard with resilience and integrity every game. The girls embraced the challenges thrown their way, and really grew throughout the season. Finished just a couple games shy of a district playoff berth, but they had some great moments this year that hopefully they can carry with them. They showed what it means to represent themselves, their teammates, and their school with pride.”

The Lady Knights finished 6-10 on the year, beginning the season 0-4 with losses to Shamokin (3-0), Troy (6-0), Athens (3-1), and Wyalusing (1-0).

A 7-0 win over NEB sparked a 3-0 run with wins over NPM (6-1), and Wellsboro (1-0) to get to 3-4.

Losses to district qualifiers Williamson (3-1) and Warrior Run (9-0) followed but things went up as they won three of their next four, beating NPM (3-0), Meadowbrook (4-0), and NCC (2-0) around a loss to league champions Troy (6-0).

They suffered another loss to Williamson (6-2), but kept their playoffs hopes alive with a win against NEB (6-1).

However, a loss to Wellsboro (2-0) ended any hopes of postseason play, and then they finished up their season with a loss to district power Milton (5-0).

The Knights say good-bye to prolific goal scorer Dunn, but, as the only senior, they return other key players, including Clara Glantz, Mya Maynard, Marin Maynard, and Maggie Glantz, as they look to break into the playoffs in 2025.
