NTL GIRLS' WRESTLING: TOWANDA EXCITED TO GET THEIR PROGRAM STARTED (2024-11-18)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — It was a big day in Towanda sports on Monday as their girls’ wrestling program had their first ever practice.
“Coach Sexton came in here and said it a couple minutes ago: it’s historic,” said Knight coach Brock Nichols. “We’ve never had a girls program. I’m excited, if you’d had asked me a year ago if I’d be doing this I would have said ‘no, I had no idea.’”
However, the girls kept pushing to get this done, and reached out to Nichols to coach the team.
“I kind of jumped on board,” Nichols explained. “I’m excited, obviously. It’s a huge thing, it’s a huge deal. You see the numbers in there, the girls are excited, the girls are pumped, they’ve been putting in work all summer, and they’re ready to go.”
Senior Lillie Maynard was on the boys’ team a couple years ago, and is excited now to have a team of her own.
“It’s amazing to have this opportunity for us.”
