NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING'S LATE RALLY COMES UP JUST SHORT AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY (2024-12-04)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYALUSING — Another tough non-league loss for Wyalusing against a quality opponent as they fell 53-49 to Delaware Valley in girls’ basketball action Wednesday.
The Rams were down two points late but were forced to foul as they tried to rally. Wyalusing had another strong day at the line, going 10-for-12 as a team.
Rachel Wilson led the way with 17 points, including 6-for-6 from the free throw line, while Treanna Nickeson netted 12 points.
Chloe Bennett and Emily Johns had seven points each, with Alysha Botts chipping in with six.
Delaware Valley jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the opening tip on the back of three 3-balls, while Nickeson had five points, including a 3-pointer of her own, to lead Wyalusing.
The Rams cut it to one at the half thanks to an 18-point second quarter as Wilson was 4-for-4 from the line with a 3-pointer, while Botts scored all six of her points.
Delaware Valley punched back in the third, out scoring Wyalusing 14-9 to take a 41-35 lead into the fourth.
The Rams would rally as they out scored Delaware Valley 14-12 behind six points from Wilson and Nickeson each, but couldn’t quite get over the hump.
Wyalusing (0-2) will welcome another tough non-league opponent in Shamokin on Tuesday of next week.
