THE WEEK AHEAD: BIG WRESTLING MATCH-UPS WHILE NTL HOOPS GETS INTO FULL SWING (2024-12-15)

Northern Tier Sports Report
A big week ahead with plenty of key league games on the courts as Troy boys’ hoops gets started. On the wrestling mat Towanda hosts Montoursville, with Athens traveling to Wyalusing.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Monday, December 16

Wyalusing (2-2) at Hughesville (4-0), 7:30 p.m.: The Rams will get their toughest test yet this season as they take on the defending district champions. Hughesville’s wins include blow outs over Central Mountain and Lewisburg.


NEB (2-1) at Williamson (1-1), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers hit the road again as they take on the Warriors. Williamson is coming off a 54-5 win over Galeton.


Meadowbrook Christian (2-2) at Canton (2-2), 7:30 p.m.: The home opener for the Warriors as they look to bounce back from their loss at Wyalusing. Meadowbrook is riding a 2-game win streak.


Wednesday, December 18

Wyalusing (2-2) at NEB (2-1), 7:30 p.m.: A big league match-up with both teams coming into the week on 2-game win streaks. 


Troy (1-1) at Canton (2-2), 7:30 p.m.: Troy is coming off a win over CV as they look to run the table on the NTL again this season. The Warriors will be looking for the upset on their rivals.


Towanda (1-1) at Williamson (1-1), 7:30 p.m.: Towanda got a bounce back win their home opener to end last week as, and will be hitting the road west again.


Friday, December 20

Sayre (1-1) at Wyalusing (2-1), 6 p.m.: No JV game so this one gets off early as the Rams end the week at home.


NEB (2-1) at Troy (1-1), 7:30 p.m.: The week just keeps getting tougher for NEB as they end the week with a trip to Troy. This is part of Troy’s busy end to the week, with three games in four days.


NPL (1-2) at Towanda (1-1), 7:30 p.m.: NPL comes into the week on a 2-game losing streak as the Knights return home to end the week.


Saturday, December 21

Milton (4-1) at Troy (1-1), 3:30 p.m.: After opening the season with a loss the Black Panthers have won four straight, including a win over Muncy.


WRESTLING

Tuesday, December 17

NEB (4-5) at Athens (1-0), 7 p.m.: The Panthers went 2-4 at the Spartan Duals over the weekend as they travel to the Wildcats for Athens’ home opener.


NPL (3-4) at Canton (1-0), 7 p.m.: The Warriors welcome NPL, which went 3-3 at the Dandy Duals, while Canton is coming off a win over Wellsboro.


Wyalusing (4-2) at Wellsboro (0-3), 7 p.m.: The Rams are coming off a win over NEB as they head west to take on a winless Wellsboro squad.


Wednesday, December 18

Montoursville (1-0) at Towanda (7-1), 7 p.m.: An early season match-up between two favorites for the District IV Duals title.


Thursday, December 19

Athens (1-0) at Wyalusing (4-2), 7 p.m.: The Rams return home in a battle of two of the top programs in the NTL.


Canton (1-0) at Williamson (0-2), 7 p.m.: The battle of the Warriors as Canton hits the road for their first away dual.


Friday, December 20

Towanda (7-1) at Central Columbia (0-2), 6 p.m.: A marathon of wrestling with junior high, girls, and then boys in that order to end the week.


Saturday, December 21

Wyalusing (4-2) at Williamson (0-2), 1 p.m.: Wyalusing ends the week with a road trip out west, their third dual of the week.


BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Monday, December 16

Elk Lake at NEB (5-1), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers heavy early season schedule continues as they take on their rivals from across the county line. NEB comes in on a 5-game win streak.


Tuesday, December 17

Troy (0-0) at NEB (5-1), 7:30 p.m.: A tough first test for the Trojans as they open their season at NEB. It’s a match-up of last year’s two divisional champions.


Towanda (3-1) at NPL (2-3), 7:30 p.m.: The Knights take their 3-game win streak into Liberty, who is coming off a close win over Athens (66-63).


Wyalusing (0-4) at Sayre (2-2), 7:30 p.m.: Wyalusing is still searching for their first win as they head to the valley. Sayre comes in on a 2-game losing streak.


NP-Mansfield (3-0) at Canton (3-0), 7:30 p.m.: A match-up of early season unbeaten, with the Tigers winning all three of their games by 15 points or more.


Thursday, December 19

Athens (1-3) at Towanda (3-1), 7:30 p.m.: The Knights return home to take on an Athens’ squad that is riding 3-game losing streak.


Canton (3-0) at CV (0-1), 7:30 p.m.: The first divisional game for the Warriors as they hit the road to Westfield. CV has a loss to Northern Potter on the season.


Wyalusing (0-4) at Troy (0-0), 7:30 p.m.: The home opener for the Trojans as Wyalusing’s road trip this week continues.


NEB (5-1) at NPL (2-3), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers edged out NPL to win the Montgomery Tournament earlier this season, with this one counting for towards the division.


Saturday, December 21

NPM (3-0) at Troy (0-0), 7 p.m.: The top two teams from the Large School Division meet with a varsity only contest as the Trojans play three games in six days.

Saturday, December 21

NEB at Hanover Holiday Classic, 9:30 a.m.: The Panthers hit the road for the Hanover Holiday Classic as part of a busy early season schedule for NEB.
