NTL WRESTLING: DURING YOUTH NIGHT WYALUSING FALLS TO ATHENS (2024-12-19)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WYALUSING — A short handed Wyalusing team came up just short against Athens, 38-30, in NTL wrestling action Thursday.

The Wildcats took seven of the 13 bouts, while Wyalusing won five, with the double forfeit at 114.

“We’re still out a couple of guys, and that’s a battle right now,” said Wyalusing coach David Patrick. “It changes the dynamics in the room training, and it changes the dynamic in the line-up, so that’s a big one, but we knew that when we came in. We knew they were strong in certain areas. For us, I think we let too many matches get away from us.”

During the match Wyalusing's Ayden Hunsinger was honored for getting his 100th win during the Ram Duals. He got a fall at 160 pounds against Athens.

Jonathan Earle (152), and Daniel Fox (215) also had falls with Shane Keblitsch (107), and Isaiah Harvey (121) both taking forfeits.

The Rams 12-6 after the first four weights, with Athens’ lone win a Caleb Nason pin at heavyweight to start things off.

Athens, though, won four straight from 127 to 145 - getting a pin out of Lucas Persun (139), and technical falls from Zaine Campbell (127), Wyatt Cink (133), and Karson Sipley (145).

That gave them a 27-12 lead.

The back to back Wyalusing falls cut it to 27-24, but a tech fall out of Brendan Cooke (172), followed by a pin from Connor Davidson (189) secured the win for Athens.

“Right now our focus is getting better every match,” Patrick said. “Our goal is postseason. We want to get five goals to regionals and then we’ll go from there. We have some really good individuals, once everybody’s healthy we’ll be in a much better spot.”

Wyalusing (5-4) will be at the Jim Thorpe Invitational over Christmas break.
