COLLEGE: TROY GRAD SEYMOUR GOES UNDEFEATED AT SHERIDAN OPEN (2024-12-21)
BY BRYAN SEYMOURNorthern Tier Sports ReportWith the holiday break coming up and finals completed, Lehigh hosted the Sheridan Open. Sheldon Seymour saw action in the tournament today for the Mountain Hawks.
Seymour opened the tournament action in the round of 16 facing Elijiro Montoya of Franklin and Marshall. Securing the matches first takedown to take the 3-0 lead, Seymour would add two more sets of 4 point back moves to take the 11-0 lead after the first period. With choice to start the second, Seymour would choose the down position to start the second period. With a quick first move, Seymour is up and out to take the 12-0 lead. Adding one more takedown Seymour would take the win with a 15-0 technical fall win to move onto the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals Seymour would face off against Blaine Frazier of Indiana. Again, Seymour would secure the first takedown to take the 3-0 lead. Frazier would earn the escape, and the first period would end with Seymour leading 3-1. Seymour would start the second period in the top position. The second period would end with no score change. Seymour would choose the bottom position to start the third. Seymour would earn a stall point to take the 4-0 lead prior to earning the escape and takedown to take 8-1 lead. Giving up another escape to make the score 8-2. With Seymour trying to secure a bonus point win, Frazier would end up with the last second takedown to make the score 8-5. The final score would be 9-5 decision for Seymour after adding in the ride time point.
In the semifinal round, Seymour would square off with Anthony Rossi of Virginia. Again, Seymour earns the matches first takedown to take the 3-0 lead. After an escape by Rossi to make the score 3-1, Seymour would secure a second takedown for the 6-1 lead headed into the second period. Seymour would choose the down position to start the second and immediately earn the escape to take a 7-1 lead. Earning another takedown and adding 4 back points to end the second period with a 14-1 lead. In the third Seymour would start in the top position. Rossi would get the escapae as Seymour ops for the optional start to make the score 14-2 lead. Seymour would earn another stall point and takedown to make the final score 18-2 for the technical fall to move into the final.
In the final Seymour would be matched up against teammate Mason Ziegler who knocked off 22nd ranked (Intermat) Jacob Moran of Indiana. There would be a no contest entered in the final as the teammates would not toe the line and share the second spot.
Lehigh will enter the holiday break at this point and prepare for the rest of the dual season when they faceoff on the road against Binghamton on Saturday January 11 and then Cornell Sunday January 12.
