NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TROY FALLS TO HORSEHEADS IN FIFTH PLACE GAME (2024-12-31)
Northern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA, N.Y. — Troy fell to Horseheads, 52-35, in the fifth place game of the Josh Palmer Fund Girls’ Basketball National Tournament Monday.
The Trojans got down big early, but clawed to stay with the Raiders through the second and third quarters. Horseheads pulled away in the fourth with a 17 point frame.
Giana Renzi had 10 points to lead the Trojans, as Alyssa Parks netted eight. Kyah Renzo scored six, with Kailyn Sterling adding four.
Ella VanNoy and Gloria Andrews had three points each, as Madelyn Seeley finished with one.
Jordyn Gross led Horseheads with 15 points while Megan Wolf netted 14.
In the opening frame those two combined for nine points as the Raiders jumped out to a 15-4 lead.
Troy would hit three 3-balls in the second quarter - two by Renzi - to rally back as the Horseheads lead was cut to 24-17 at the half.
Gross came out strong in the third with seven points as Horseheads extended their lead to 35-25. In the final frame the Raiders held Troy to 10 points to secure the win.
Troy will travel to Wyalusing on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
