NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: BEERS, CROWN COMBINE FOR 40 IN NEB'S WIN OVER CV (2021-02-25)

WESTFIELD — Nick Beers and Lucas Crown scored 20 points each as NEB rolled past CV 78-57 in NTL boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Beers added eight boards, six steals, four assists and two blocks as Crown had three assists and three steals.

Sam Abell added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to go with five assists and two steals, while Dan Seeley was also in double figures with 10 points, plus eight boards and three blocks. 


Dan Williams scored six with three boards and two steals, Ethan Finch netted five with four boards and three assists, and Julian Jampo had three points.


McGuire Painter led CV with 22 points as Ben Cooper scored 15 and Tucker St. Peter netted 14. Gage Tilten notched three, Joe Eaton had two and Carter Ackley scored one.


The Panthers jumped out to a 20-10 first quarter lead behind six points from Williams, while Beers netted five. In all six NEB players scored in the quarter. 


Cooper led CV with five points in the first frame.


It was a high scoring second quarter as the two teams combined for 44 points. NEB had 24 behind eight from Crown, Beers and Seeley each, while Painter had 13 for the Indians.


After taking a 44-30 halftime lead NEB netted another 20 points in the third quarter as they had four 3-pointers - paced by Abell’s two for a quarter high six points.


CV didn’t go away, netting 18 points themselves, led by St. Peter’s seven points, and Coopers six.


The offenses came down a notch in the fourth as NEB out scored CV 14-9. Nine of their points came on free throws while Abell scored five in the quarter.


Painter had seven for CV, but his teammates only chipped in with two.


NEB will travel to Sayre on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.
