THE SPORTS REPORTS: TOWANDA'S THOMPSON NAMED ALL-REGION BOYS 'NEWCOMER OF THE FALL;' FIVE OTHER BRADFORD COUNTY BOYS MAKE THE LIST (2025-01-02)

Freshman Boom Thompson not only has the coolest first name in the region, he made the biggest impact of any newcomer in not one, but two sports this fall, and is The Sports Reports 2024 All-Region Boys "Newcomer of the Fall."

Thompson was the top freshman cross country runner in the NTL, and led the Black Knights to a fourth-place finish at the rugged District 4, Class AA Championships. He placed 19th individually.

On the links, Thompson had the fourth-best scoring average in the NTL at 81.22, including a low round of 76. Thompson finished 10th at the District 4 Championships with a two-day total of 172 (85-87).

Reed Palmer, sophomore, Troy football: Palmer was a big two-way contributor for Troy this season, beginning as a terror on the defensive line, while on offense he was a big time blocker as a tight end, and was even a threat in the passing game.

Palmer had 88 tackles, including 18 tackles-for-loss, and eight QB sacks. Offensively, Palmer had eight catches for 166 yards and two TDs.

Jake Browne, senior, Tioga football: Browne, who was goal keeper on the Tioga soccer team the last two years, rushed for 1,422 yards and 23 TDs on 186 carries (7.6 yards per carry) on the season.

In Tioga's 56-28 win over then-unbeaten Deposit-Hancock, Browne set team and Section IV record with 421 yards (on 32 carries), and eight TDs, which tied a Section IV record.

Owen Savercool, freshman, Towanda golf:
Savercool was a key contributor for Towanda this season in helping them to a third-place finish at team districts. He also had a good two days at the individual District 4 tournament, shooting a two-day total of 165 (82-83) to earn a state berth.

On the regular season, he was eighth in NTL with an 84.72 scoring average, including a low round of 81.

Micah Pesesky, sophomore, Troy football:
Pesesky took over the center roll for Troy as they formed the best offensive line in Class AA this season, and was one of the best sophomores in the state.

Dylan Brace, sophomore, Owego football: Brace had a team-high 86 tackles, including 33 solo stops, for the River Hawks. He also had 11 tackles-for-losses, two QB sacks, one QB pressure, two pass break-ups, and one fumble recovery.

Sean Hanrahan, junior, Elmira soccer: 
Hanrahan led the Express to seven shutouts on the season and helped the team hold the opposition to a goal or less in 12 of their 18 contests. He had 78 saves in 1389 minutes, including a penalty kick stop. He won 12 matches for the Express, the most by any STAC West Team.

Griffin Morral, freshman, Wellsboro:
Morral accounted for more than 1,200 yards and 17 TDs on the season.

Morral threw for 1,112 yards and 15 TD, and also rushed for 120 yards, and two TDs.
 
Ty Owen, freshman, Athens golf: Owen immediately worked his way into the starting line-up for the three-time defending NTL champs, and helped them to a fourth title. He was sixth in the league with an 18-hole scoring average of 84.36 for 11 matches. His low round of the season was a 76.

Brendan Cooke, sophomore, Athens football: A hard-nosed defender, Cooke recorded 90 tackles, including 30 solo stops, one QB sack, and two tackles-for-loss. He also had three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one interception, and one blocked field goal. Offensively, Cooke ran for 78 yards and one TD, and had five catches for 52 yards, and one TD.

Steve Olson, freshman Cowanesque Valley football: Olson collected 37 tackles and had six QB sacks on the season.

Zach Conklin, junior, Elmira football:
Conklin threw for 872 yards and 12 TDs on the season.

Kody Enck, freshman, Wellsboro football:
Enck had 16 receptions for 325 yards and four TDs, and rushed for 58 yards and one TD on 21 carries. He was the Hornets’ second-leading kick returner, and had 49 tackles on defense.
