NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA COMES UP SHORT AGAINST ATHENS (2025-01-04)

ATHENS — After a strong start Towanda scored just four points in the second quarter, allowing Athens to take a lead, and the Wildcats kept it, pulling away for a 50-40 win over the Knights in NTL girls’ basketball action Friday.

Towanda led Athens 13-10 after the one, but the Wildcats would take a 22-17 lead at the half. They went on to out Towanda 28-23 in the second half to get the win.


Brynn Woodruff had 17 points, and six boards, to lead Towanda, as Payton Perry added 10 points, seven steals, and four assists.


Mya Maynard notched seven points, and eight boards, with Mary-Kate Eberlin getting six points.


McKenna Jarvis and Sara Bronson had 13 points each to lead Athens.


Woodruff had five points, while Eberlin netted four, as the Knights took a 2-point lead after one.


In the second, though, Eberlin had the only field goal for Towanda, with Athens’ Allison Kemp netting eight of her 12 points to give them the 5-point lead at the half.


Towanda would rally in the third, out scoring Athens 13-12 as Perry had eight points. Towanda went the line 11 times, making seven to help get them back in the game.


Down 34-30 going into the final frame Woodruff and Maynard had five points each, but Jarvis went off for seven points, while Bronson and Addy Wheeler had four points each, to give the Wildcats the win.


Towanda (2-5) will host Wellsboro on Monday with a 6 p.m. varsity start.
