NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING HOLDS ON TO BEAT WELLSBORO (2025-01-08)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWELLSBORO — Wyalusing survived a tough Wellsboro squad, pulling out a 51-40 road win during NTL girls’ basketball action Wednesday.
They led by six after the first quarter, but the Hornets would out score them 30-29 over the middle frames. In the fourth the Hornets got to within four points but the Rams pulled away, thanks to Alysha Botts scoring 10 of her 12 in the final quarter.
Chloe Bennett led the Rams with 19 points, including three 3-balls, to go with two steals, as Rachel Wilson had six points, and 10 rebounds.
Emily Johns added six points, seven boards, and three steals, with Treanna Nickeson getting four points, three steals, and three assists.
Liz Kilmer, and Emily Fowler chipped in with two points each.
Wyalusing led with their defense in the opening frame, holding the Hornets to two points while Nickeson netted four points to pace the Rams to an 8-2 lead.
Both teams scored 15 points in the second quarter, with Bennett netting seven to lead Wyalusing.
Bennett got hot in the third, scoring 10 of the Rams’ 14 points, but Wellsboro didn’t go away, finding themselves down just 37-32.
In the final frame Wyalusing out scored the Hornets 14-8, as Botts went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Wyalusing (6-5) travels to NP-Mansfield Friday.
