NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: RENZI'S BIG NIGHT LEADS TROY PAST TOWANDA (2025-01-08)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TROY — It was a wild one at the Commons Building, with Troy out gunning Towanda, 77-54, during NTL girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

Giana Renzi had a career night for the Trojans, scoring 27 points while hitting five 3-pointers along the way, with the Trojans netting nine from deep, and 30 field goals in all.

“I’m really proud of our girls’ effort tonight,” said Troy coach Curtis Miller. “We wanted to come out and play fast, and physical, and I think we did that. On the offensive end we did a much better job tonight of making the extra pass, and finding the open girl. We didn’t force too many passes, and we were able to hit some shots from the outside, which opened up driving lane, and I’m very happy with how we were able to get some transition buckets, as well. Towanda did a great job of pushing us on both ends of the court, and overall it was just a great NTL basketball game.”

Alyssa Parks added 17 points, with Kyah Renzo scoring 12, Gloria Andrews nine, and Kailyn Sterling finishing with six.

Ella VanNoy, Madelyn Seeley, and Kendall Allen had two points apiece.

The Knights were only down by two after the first quarter, and even when the Trojans opened up a 41-27 lead at the half Towanda didn’t go away.

“I was very proud of the effort displayed by both teams tonight,” said Towanda coach Rob Gentile. “It was a really fun game to be a part of and I think both teams got a lot better tonight. Hats off to Troy, they really responded to some adverse times tonight, and Giana Renzi was outstanding in all aspects of the game! It's probably one of the best shooting performances by a girls' team I have seen in some time, but I couldn't be prouder of the fight and heart that our kids showed tonight against a really good team!”

Brynn Woodruff had 15 points, and nine boards to lead Towanda, as Payton Perry added 15 points, and three steals.

Mya Maynard chipped in with 11 points, and nine boards, while Karis Flynn had five points, and three assists.

Kennedy Heyer had four points, and four steals, with Reese Sullivan getting four points, as well.

Renzi scored seven of Troy’s 18 first quarter points as five different Troy players got in the scoreboard. Flynn, and Woodruff had five points each for the Knights.

In Troy’s 23 point second quarter they had 10 field goals, three of them behind the race. Renzi had eight points, including two 3-balls, with Parks adding five.

The Trojans hit four 3-pointers in the third - two by Andrews, two by Renzi - as they out scored Towanda 18-14, with Perry and Woodruff pacing the Knights with five points apiece.

In the final frame Renzo, Parks, and Renzi had six points each as Troy pulled away. Maynard had seven in the quarter to lead Towanda.

Towanda travels to Williamsport for an afternoon contest on Saturday, while Troy hosts Athens with a 4 p.m. varsity start.
