NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TROY PULLS AWAY FROM ATHENS IN THE SECOND HALF (2025-01-12)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTROY — Troy pulled away from Athens, 52-25, in a defensive battle during NTL girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Trojans led just 21-10 at the half but went on to score 31 second half points to get the league win.
Kailyn Sterling netted 25 to lead Troy, with Alyssa Parks scoring 11. Madelyn Seeley added seven, Giana Renzi notched five, Gloria Andrews had three, and Ella VanNoy chipped in with one.
Addy Wheeler led Athens with 14 points.
Sterling led Troy with five first quarter points while the Trojan defense held Athens to just one field goal, taking a 13-3 lead.
Sterling added six more points in the second, but scoring was tough all the way around as the two teams combined for just 15 points the frame.
Troy got some separation in the third, out scoring Athens 17-6 as Sterling had six points, while Parks added four.
In the final frame Sterling netted eight to bring home the win.
Troy hosts Wellsboro with a 6 p.m. start on Wednesday.
