NTL GIRLS' WRESTLING: TOWANDA GOES 2-1 AT THEIR FIRST QUAD MEET (2025-01-12)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — History was made on Saturday as the Towanda girls’ wrestling program hosted their first match, going 2-1 on the day during quad match action with Mifflinburg, Western Wayne, and Athens.
The Knights eked out wins over Mifflinburg (39-36) and Western Wayne (39-33), but fell to Athens (51-24).
“A great day of wrestling,” Towanda coach Brock Nichols said. “The girls wrestled hard, and got wins over quality teams. We’re battling through mid-season injuries, and illness. I’m proud of the work the girls have put in, and to see it pay off on the mat is what you want to see.”
Shaylynn Morris, Lillie Maynard, and Alivia Spicer all went 3-0 on the day for Towanda, as Natalyn Morris, and Kenzie Brown both went 2-1.
Hailey Harbst, Hailey Petrowski, and Ily Benjamin finished 1-2, as Adelee Wecker went 0-3. Lylah Bride went 0-1, as well.
In the first match against Mifflinburg the Knights led 33-18 at one point but the Wildcats rallied to take a 36-33 lead. In the final bout Spicer got a fall to secure the win for the Knights.
In the second match against Westner Wayne Towanda once again got a big lead, going up 21-6 after five weights. Western Wayne rallied to knot things up at 21-all.
Towanda followed with falls from Benjamin, and Spicer, while the Wildcats got two forfeits to tie things up at 33.
That set up Naughton’s fall at 170 to give Towanda their second win on the day.
In the final match Towanda led 12-6 early but Athens rattled off 18 straight points to go up 24-12. Towanda cut it to 24-18, but 18 more points from the Wildcats put the match out of reach.
Towanda will travel to Wellsboro on Thursday.
