THE WEEK AHEAD: BIG WEEK FOR DIVISIONAL HOOPS, AND LEAGUE WRESTLING (2025-01-12)
Northern Tier Sports ReportArea hoops divisional action picks up this week while league wrestling has just two weeks left as we head into the middle of January.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Monday, January 13
Montgomery (1-8) at Canton (6-5), 6 p.m.: The Warriors are coming off a big win over NP-Liberty while the Red Raiders come looking to break an 8-game losing streak.
Towanda (3-7) at Sullivan County (3-9), 6 p.m.: The Knights seemed to be finding their footing after three strong performances last week, while the Griffins broke a 4-game losing streak with a win over Montgomery.
NEB (7-2) at Muncy (7-2), 7:30 p.m.: The game of the night as these are the top two teams in the Class AA standings for District IV. Muncy comes in on a 6-game win streak, with NEB winners of their last three.
Wednesday, January 15
Wellsboro (3-5) at Troy (7-4), 6 p.m.: The Trojans went 2-0 last week while the Hornets look to snap a 4-game losing streak.
Canton (6-5) at Williamson (4-6), 6 p.m.: Williamson has gone 3-2 over their last five games as Canton continues a busy week.
Athens (7-4) at Wyalusing (7-5), 7:30 p.m.: A big divisional match-up as the Rams have won four straight coming into this game. The Wildcats saw their 3-game win streak snapped at Troy.
Towanda (3-7) at NP-Mansfield (5-7), 7:30 p.m.: The Tigers come into this week on a 2-game losing streak, the same with Towanda.
NEB (7-2) at CV (4-5), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers hit the road as they head west for another key divisional match-up. After a slow start the Indians have gone 3-1 over their last four.
Friday, January 17
Sayre at Canton, 6 p.m.: The Warriors welcome Sayre to end the week. Sayre is looking to break a 7-game losing streak.
Towanda (3-7) at Wyalusing (7-5), 7:30 p.m.: The big week for both teams ends with the rivals facing off for the first time this season.
NP-Mansfield (5-7) at Troy (7-4), 7:30 p.m.: The Trojans host a Tiger squad that went 1-2 last week, their lone win over Canton.
Williamson (4-6) at NEB (7-2), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers end the week with another key divisional contest against the Warriors.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Tuesday, January 14
Wyalusing (1-8) at Athens (2-8), 7:30 p.m.: The Rams head north as they look to break a 3-game losing streak. The Wildcats are looking to break a 5-game losing streak.
NP-Mansfield (10-2) at Towanda (6-5), 7:30 p.m.: The Knights will be looking to break a 2-game losing streak with the Tigers winning three straight last week.
Troy (8-2) at Wellsboro (6-5), 7:30 p.m.: The Trojans have won four straight to start the New Year, while the Hornets have won three straight themselves.
CV (2-9) at NEB (8-4), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers are coming off a divisional loss to Sayre as they host CV. The Indians have lost six straight.
Williamson (1-8) at Canton (4-7), 7:30 p.m.: Williamson just picked up their first win of the season, defeating CV, while Canton is looking to break their five game losing streak.
Thursday, January 16
Troy (8-2) at NP-Mansfield (10-2), 7:30 p.m.: Troy won the first meeting back in December, and come in winners of four straight. The Tigers will try to end Troy’s unbeaten NTL streak going back two seasons.
Wyalusing (1-8) at Towanda (6-5), 7:30 p.m.: Towanda pulled away for a win in their first match-up. The Knights are looking to find their groove again, while the Rams are looking to break a 3-game losing streak.
NEB (8-4) at Williamson (1-8), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers head west for a divisional game agains the Warriors, who recently just picked up their first win of the season.
Canton (4-7) at Sayre (8-3), 7:30 p.m.: Sayre is coming off a big win over NEB, and have won two straight coming into this week.
Saturday, January 18
East Juniata (3-8) at Wyalusing (1-8), 1:30 p.m.: EJ comes into the week on a 5-game losing streak in this non-league contest for the Rams.
Notre Dame at Towanda (6-5), 7:30 p.m.: Towanda ends a busy week as they host the Crusaders for a non-league contest.
Troy (8-2) at Bucktail (4-5), 2 p.m.: The Bucks have won two straight coming into this week while the Trojans’ road trip continues.
Williamson (1-8) at NEB (8-4), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers play host in a divisional contest as they take on Williamson for the second time this week.
Sayre (8-3) at Canton (4-7), 7:30 p.m.: These two teams meet up for the second time in three days in a divisional contest.
WRESTLING
Monday, January 13
Troy (2-6) at NEB (4-8), 7 p.m.: The Trojans hit the road after seeing two wrestlers earn medals at the Southern Tier Memorial. NEB is looking to break into the win column after a string of losses.
Tuesday, January 14
Canton (2-3) at Wyalusing (8-10), 7 p.m.: Both teams are looking to rebound from losses this week as they battle for a spot in the District IV Duals.
Towanda (15-3) at Warrior Run (4-5), 7 p.m.: The Knights head south to take on the District IV Duals defending Champions. Towanda is coming off a big win over Wyalusing while the Defenders have been up-and-down this season.
Wellsboro (0-10) at Troy (2-6), 7 p.m.: Back to back matches for the Trojans as they return home to take on the winless Hornets.
Thursday, January 16
Horseheads (16-5) at Wyalusing (8-10), 7 p.m.: A tough match-up for the Rams as they welcome one of the best Section IV programs for a non-league contest.
Towanda (15-3) at Wellsboro (0-10), 7 p.m.: The Knights head west for this league match with the Hornets.
NEB (4-8) at Canton (2-3), 7 p.m.: Another potential good match-up as the Panthers hit the road to take on a Canton team that will be wrestling three matches this week.
Friday, January 17
Canton (2-3) at Towanda (15-3), 7 p.m.: Hall of Fame Night for the Knights as they welcome the Warriors for a key league contest.

Friday, January 17 - Saturday, January 18
NEB at Coal Cracker Tournament: The Panthers head to Jim Thorpe for one of the top tournaments in Eastern Pennsylvania.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Friday, January 17 - Saturday, January 18
Towanda at Tunkhannock Invitational: The Invite starts at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. on Saturday as the Knights look to keep improving as they work for those district times.
