NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: NEB RALLIES PAST MUNCY IN FINAL MINUTE TO ESCAPE WITH WIN (2025-01-13)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MUNCY — Lillie Maynard hit tying free throws, then Mallorie Maynard nailed the game winner as NEB edged Muncy, 42-41, in a rematch of last year’s District IV, Class AA title game Monday.

“It was great mental composure tonight,” said NEB coach Ben Beebe. “We didn’t play well, turned the ball over too much, but the girls kept fighting. Muncy is a good, aggressive team, and we really needed that challenge tonight. Win or lose, games like that show what your team is made of.”

Mallorie Maynard had 13 points, six boards, and two blocks to lead NEB as Lillie Maynard finished with 11 points, seven boards, three steals, and two blocks.

Leah Beebe and Becca VanDeMark had five points apiece, with Beebe grabbing five boards, as VandeMark nabbed three steals. Lilah Hughes had four points, and five rebounds, with Kara Dughi, and Aurelia Kolesar both scoring two points.

Ava Eyer, and Addison Eyer had 11 points each for the Indians, with Addison Gresh netting 10.

Muncy led 15-10 after the first quarter with Ava Eyer scoring six points out of the gate. Lillie Maynard paced NEB with four.

The Panthers clawed back into it in the second, out scoring Muncy 7-6, as Mallorie Maynard had four for NEB. Addison Eyer scored all six of Muncy’s points.

Mallorie Maynard had five points, with Lillie Maynard scoring four in the third as NEB cut it to 33-31 going into the final frame.

In the fourth Muncy led by two in the final minute when their coach got a technical fall. Lillie Maynard made both freebies with 33 seconds left to tie the game at 40.

Mallorie Maynard then got the ball off a deflection, then scored for a 42-40 lead.

With three seconds left Gresh would go to the line for two free throws, but went 1-for-2. NEB would run out the clock for the win.

The win keeps NEB on top of the District IV, Class AA standings, as they head to CV on Wednesday.
