NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: CANTON COMES UP SHORT AT SAYRE (2025-01-16)
Northern Tier Sports ReportSAYRE — A rough second quarter hurt Canton in their 46-33 loss to Sayre during NTL boys’ basketball action Thursday.
The Redskins led just 8-7 after one but a 20-point frame saw them take a 28-16 lead at the half. Sayre would narrowly out score Canton 18-17 in the second half.
Canton’s Talin Williams had 14 points to lead the Warriors, with Ben Fitch scoring 13. Monte Whitehead netted three, Rylan Wesneski added two, and Andrew Smith scored one.
Hudson Trump led Sayre with 12 points as Nick Pellicano added 10.
Fitch and Williams both hit 3-pointers in the first quarter as Sayre took the 1-point lead. Trump would score six points in the second, while Williams had seven, as the Redskins took the 12-point lead at the half.
Both teams scored nine in the third, as Fitch paced Canton with a five point effort.
In the fourth Fitch scored five more points, with Williams netting three, but it wasn’t enough.
Canton (5-8) will turn around and host Sayre on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
