NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING DOWNS WILLIAMSON, RAISES SPIRITS AFTER WEEKEND TRAGEDY (2025-01-23)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYALUSING — Wyalusing boys’ basketball team defeated Williamson, 76-38, during NTL action Wednesday, but more importantly, the Rams were able to help out the family of one of their own.
Through a bake sale, concessions, and donations they raised over $5,000 for Shay Gartland’s family after his mother and sister lost their lives in a tragic fire over the weekend.
“I’m just so thankful to be a part of this program,” said Wyalusing coach Brent Keyes. “It’s been a tough week. Our thoughts have been with Shay and his family. The guys have rallied together, our community has rallied together, and I’m just really proud of how we played. For us to be able to focus and come in and execute as well as we have all year, I’m just really proud of our guys. Our community continues to be amazing. The outpouring of support tonight, the money raised for the family, this is a special place.”
Wyalusing hit 10 3-pointers in the game as they led 22-6 after one and never looked back.
“As for basketball, we continue to get better, we have been working hard, and I’m excited to see how much better we can get this year,” remarked Keyes.
Hunter House had a career high 24 points on eight 3-balls to lead Wyalusing while Zibiah Walton added 17.
Ashton VandeMark netted eight, with Tyler Caplan, and Will McBride scoring seven points apiece. Jared VandeMark added six, Myles Kershner notched four, and Parker Cunningham rounded out the scorers with three.
Jack Nolan had 21 to lead Williamson.
Caplan led the Rams with seven points in the opening frame, while Walton and House had six points apiece.
House added two more 3-balls to pace Wyalusing’s 20 point second quarter as they led Williamson 42-18 at the half.
Walton came away with seven in the third as the Rams pulled away for a 59-32 lead.
Ashton VandeMark and House both had six points each to lead Wyalusing in the fourth.
The win breaks a 6-game losing streak for Wyalusing (2-11) who travel to NPL on Friday.
