NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: CANTON HOLDS ON TO BEAT CV (2025-01-31)

CANTON — Canton pulled out an NTL Small School win on Friday, besting Cowanesque Valley 71-62 as they avenged a loss from back in December.

The Warriors led 19-18 after one, and slowly extended their lead to 53-44 after three. CV tried to rally in the fourth, but Canton held them off.

Ben Fitch had 20 points to lead Canton, with Talin Williams netting 19. Monte Whitehead scored 10, Simon Wile had nine, with Andrew Smith getting seven.

Gunnar Resavage, and Quincy Wesneski had three points apiece.

The Warriors hit four 3-balls in the opening frame - two by Williams, one by Fitch, and one by Resavage - to take the 1-point lead at the first horn.

Williams would net seven in the second quarter to pace Canton to a 36-31 lead at the half.

Canton out scored CV 17-13 in the third as Fitch scored eight, and Smith added six, to take the nine point lead into the final frame.

In the fourth the Indians had more field goals, 8-6, but Canton went 6-for-9 from the free throw line to secure the win.

Canton (7-12) will travel to Montgomery on Monday.
