COLLEGE: TROY GRAD SEYMOUR NABS TWO DUAL MEET WINS (2025-02-01)
BY BRYAN SEYMOURNorthern Tier Sports ReportWrestling back at home in the Lehman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall in the Caruso Complex. Sheldon Seymour and Lehigh Wrestling hosted American University. After two weeks off and getting through the start of the second semester of school, it was time to get back to the mats. The match would start at 125 pounds. This would be the first meeting between America and Lehigh since 2020.
With the match starting at 125, Seymour would look to kick things off for the Mountain Hawks. Wrestling against another former PA wrestler in Coen Bainey, Seymour would look to start Lehigh off in the right direction.
Seymour, who likes to start things off, would stalk Bainey, work to a double leg takedown, and finish the shot to take the early 3-0 lead. Working from the top position and on the edge of the mat, Seymour would continue moving till, with a quick move, Seymour would put Bainey to his back. With the official making the swipes and counting back points, Seymour would readjust his move and position to hear the official slap the mat, earn the fall in 1:08, and give the Mountain Hawks the 6-0 lead.
In the end, the match went all the Mountain Hawks’ way, as Lehigh won nine of the ten matches. The final score was 36-6 Lehigh.
Back at Grace Hall we find Sheldon Seymour and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks taking on the Army West Point Black Knights. Seymour would find himself not starting the dual off today as the match would start at 174 making Seymour the fifth match.
Seymour (ranked 12th by Intermat) would face off against Charlie Farmer (25th ranked by Intermat). Seymour would surrender the opening takedown to go down 3-0 but would earn the 1-point escape and finish the first down 3-1. Opening the second period in the top position, Seymour would ride for about 10 seconds before cutting Farmer to make the score 4-1. Keep working to secure a takedown, Seymour would get a stall warning against Farmer with his shot attempts. Late in the second, Seymour would secure the takedown with a little head pinch to misdirection to the near ankle. Going down in the third, Seymour would earn the 2-point reversal to make the score 6-4. Now, on top, Seymour would work tough to secure another ride time point with over a minute of ride time to make the final a 7-4 decision. With the decision, Seymour would add three more points to the team’s score.
In the end, Lehigh would defeat Army West Point 27-10. Lehigh went 2-0 on the weekend. Seymour and Lehigh will be back in action Friday, February 7, 2025, as they travel west to Bucknell with a 7:00 start time.
