NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: PERRY LEADS TOWANDA PAST NP-MANSFIELD (2025-02-10)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TOWANDA — Towanda clinched the final spot in the NTL Showdown as they rolled past NP-Mansfield, 65-39, during NTL girls’ hoops action Monday.

The win also likely gives them a home playoff game against Wyalusing in the first round of districts next week.

“I’m really proud of our kids,” said Towanda coach Rob Gentile. “They played with a lot of energy tonight and were just relentless defensively. We created a lot of turnovers and capitalized in transition tonight.”

It was a high scoring first quarter as the Knights led 22-14 after one. Towanda kept up the scoring in the second, netting 20 points, while putting the clamps on the Tigers to take a 42-20 lead at the half.

A 16-10 third quarter in their favor secured the win.

Payton Perry netted 25 points to go with three assists, and two steals, as Brynn Woodruff had 11 points, four boards, and four steals.

Mya Maynard finished with nine points, and nine rebounds, as Karis Flynn had six points, and two steals.

Mary-Kate Eberlin had five points, with two steals, while Reese Sullivan notched five points, with four steals. London Decker chipped in with two points.

Perry started off hot, scoring 14 points in the opening frame, while it was a team effort in the second quarter with six different players finding the bottom of the net.

Woodruff paced the third quarter effort with nine points, while Perry added five.

Towanda won the JV game 59-20 behind 18 from Al Hollett, 15 out of Sullivan, and 13 from Eberlin. They went 15-3 on the season.

Towanda (14-8) will travel to NEB Thursday for the opening round of the NTL Showdown, before likely hosting Wyalusing in the first round of district play next week.

“Less than a month ago we were sitting at 3-7 and it would have been completely understandable if they would have just shut it down emotionally, but these kids have a lot of character and just kept showing up and fighting,” Gentile said. “They have improved so much in that time and just really committed to each other. It's so much fun to watch as a coach. They fought for every opportunity in front of them and we are going to enjoy every opportunity we get moving forward and learn from every experience we get.”
